Caffe Bene New York

Say Associate asked me to create huge window and fence graphics for the Caffe Bene New York store. My work has been displayed as an advertisement while the cafe has been under construction. I've heard that it will be open in January, 2012 on the first floor of Crowne Plaza Hotel at 49th street and Broadway in Manhattan.

I just found photos of window and fence versions of my work from somebody's blog and midtownlunch.com. I am not sure when you can see my work by. I guess the opening will be soon :)

뉴욕 타임스퀘어에 곧 오픈하는, 카페베네 뉴욕지점 공사기간 중 필요한 창문과 펜스 그래픽 작업입니다. 국내에서 기존 연예인의 이미지를 사용한 광고펜스와 차별화되게 뉴욕이란 도시에 어울리며 커피향이 느껴지는 느낌으로 앤티크함과 모던함이 잘 배합되게 하려고 노력했던 작업입니다. 비록 공사기간중에만 사용되지만 사랑하는 도시, 뉴욕의 한복판에 대형으로 디스플레이 된다는 사실이 신기하면서 기분좋았던 프로젝트였어요.

Black'Smith B.I.

I was asked to edit a logo for Black'Smith by Say Associate, an Interior Design company.

According to Paul Rand, design has to be ordered and systematized. I delicately adjusted its outlines and added rubber stamp texture in order to show dynamic energy and familiarity of the blacksmith design concept. I wanted both the Korean and English logos to look simple but equally lively.

I also designed the business card for them. And I suggested using the black color for its pizza box and how to apply its logo on plates, mugs, napkins and etc.

It was really fun doing a graphic design project in a long time :-)

인테리어 디자인회사, Say Associate의 의뢰로 이탈리언 레스토랑 Black'Smith의 B.I의 최종 수정단계에 참여했습니다. 그래픽 디자이너 Paul Rand는 디자인을 '조직화하는 행위'라고 했습니다. '조직화'랑 대상들을 한데 모아서 의미있고, 흥미롭고, 재미있는 것으로 만드는 과정을 뜻합니다. B.I와 Logo는 간결함 속에서 이를 극명하게 보여주는데 기존 Black' Smith의 로고와 공간컨셉의 특징을 좀 더 드러내기 위해 Rubber Stamp와 같은 재질감을 더하고 대장장이의 역동적이면서 친근한 에너지를 표현하기위해 심플함 속에 구체적인 이야기같은 라인을 변화를 주었습니다. 한글과 영문 로고 모두 라인의 변화를 통해 움직임을 강조했습니다. 또한 명함디자인과 로고를 냅킨, 그릇, 머그잔, 포장용기 등에 어떻게 적용할지 제안해주는 작업이었습니다. 오랜만에 참여한 그래픽디자인 작업이라 재미있었던 기억이 나네요 :)

I made the sketchbook Christmas tree on the left wall of my exhibit booth by using typography and arranging my drawings randomly as Christmas tree ornaments. Thankfully, visitors loved it.

Self Portrait at the age of thirty

When I was a young and dreamy girl, I imagined a confident and successful woman in my 30s. In reality, I am still immature both in love and work. I am taking some time to look at my hand like a mirror or like introspection.

The nervous thumb is worrying about everything. An index finger is struggling to hide herself getting old. A middle finger and a ring finger argue for setting priorities in their lives like two different egos. The youngest, a little finger is still adventurous and never stops pursuing her dreams.

We know that "every moment counts," but we also know that every moment cannot be perfect. With all the varied gaits, am I doing alright in my thirties?

Sometimes, I imagined...
if I were a snail tree?

when I feel like the only one who is always one step behind or
feel lost like being all alone even if I am with my people,

I imagined...if I were a snail on one of the branches of a big beautiful tree,

can I be getting older, wiser, and more confident by listening to words of wisdom from a wind, exposing to the sun, and smelling the refreshing and greenish scent of nature? so...I can keep walking and finding my own directions?

Little Ashes

I went to this movie yesterday. It's about friendship and love of Salvador Dalí, Federico García Lorca and Luis Buñuel during the 20s and 30s in Spain. I think it is more focus on Lorca not Dali. I imagined Dali would be more charismatic but I was fascinated by so many beautiful and gorgeous scenes and music.

I liked the fact in this movie that I could explore delicate and realistic feelings about relationships. And I loved the composition of a puzzle with 500 days and nice drawing ang graphics.

The Soloist

I watched this film several months ago, and finally movie-reviewed visually. It was a little bit sentimental but Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx's actings were stunning. I did envy the outsider's passionate perspective on his art, because I wanted to self- criticize my continuous idleness which rusts the mind.
